For residents living in the United Arab Emirates, travel is normal part of their life. UAE Residents are traveling abroad due to various reasons; however, they are unaware that staying outside of the UAE for long period of time affects UAE residence visa validity.

Thus, understanding Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security’s (ICP) rules and regulations, governing UAE residence visa validity outside country is essential to maintain validity of their residence visas.

To maintain the validity of residence visa, visa holders shall comply with ICP laws and regulations. One of the most important requirements concerns how long a resident may stay outside of the UAE without losing their residency visa validity.

Under ICP rules and regulations, residents holding Employment and Sponsor visas can not stay outside of the UAE for more than 180 (6 months) consecutive calendar days. If such Visa Holder would stay abroad longer that this period, his/her residence visa would become automatically invalid. Investor, Partner and Golden Visa Holders can not stay outside of the UAE for more than 365 (1 year) consecutive calendar days.
