This type of establishment\u00a0can either conduct\u00a0<em>commercial activities<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>professional activities\u00a0<\/em>in the Emirate where it is registered.\u00a0In accordance with the existing laws, only UAE nationals and nationals of GCC countries (subject to certain conditions) are permitted to form such companies for carrying out\u00a0<em>commercial activities<\/em>.\u00a0The\u00a0<em>commercial activities<\/em>\u00a0are those activities which are described\u00a0in the Article 5 \u2013 6 of the UAE Federal Law No. 18 of 1993 on Commercial Transactions. Some of these activities are\u00a0<em>trading, import-export, real estate development, manufacturing and etc<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, expatriates are also allowed to form Sole Proprietorship only for conducting\u00a0<em>professional activities<\/em>, such as\u00a0<em>medical services, engineering consultancies, management consultancies, legal consultancies, IT consultancies and similar services<\/em>. \u00a0The Sole Proprietorship, owned by a foreigner, should appoint a Local Service Agent in accordance with UAE laws. A\u00a0Local Service Agent should be\u00a0a UAE national (either individual or a company), whose primary job is to act as liaison between the company and the government entities, for example, in applying for work permits, visas etc. The relations between the principal companies and the agents are regulated by an agency agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To sum up, Sole Proprietorship for\u00a0carrying out<em>\u00a0commercial activities<\/em>\u00a0can be formed only by UAE nationals or GCC nationals (subject to certain conditions).
